Resident of Carolina Beach reacts to parking pass elimination
CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Carolina Beach has recently announced a change to its parking policy, stating that parking passes will no longer be permitted in oceanfront lots. This decision has left many residents feeling unheard.
The town council’s choice was influenced by potential implications for federal funding, particularly related to a significant beach renourishment project.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is set to provide over $20 million for this essential project, and their interpretation of regulations requires that Carolina Beach offer equal access and payment options for both residents and non-residents.
Local resident Danny Tangredi shared his disappointment with the council’s decision: “I don’t think this town council or manager… they do enough to negotiate on the terms of the resident. It seems like they are constantly chasing the dollar, whether it’s the tourist dollar or the resident dollar, instead of having the residents’ best interest in mind.”
Tangredi also noted the sentiment among his neighbors, saying, “I don’t know a neighbor of mine that’s for it. I think a lot of people are against it, and from what I understand, I think a lot of people are going to be showing up at council next month and voicing their opinions.”
The next Carolina Beach council meeting is scheduled for November 12th and will be open to the public.
In the meantime, residents are encouraged to watch for any new signage indicating upcoming parking changes around town.
