LLWS ends for North Carolina team falling to Mexico

WILLIAMSPORT, PA (WWAY) – Heartbreak hit the Southeast team from Greenville, NC over the weekend in the U.S Championship game for the Little League World Series.

The team from Greenville, North Carolina suffered a loss to Lufkin, Texas Saturday for the title. They went on Sunday to play Mexico for 3rd place but came up short.

The renowned pitching of the North Carolina team could not hold off the bats as Mexico also defeated the southeast team.

Greenville was previously undefeated in the tournament… giving up just one run and one hit in three games. Texas fell behind them 5-nothing in the third inning when JoeJoe Byrne hit a two-run single then scored on Chase Anderson’s groundout to second.

Pinch hitter Clayton Wigley’s two-run homer started the rally for Lufkin in the fourth inning. More hits going yard followed for the Texas team in the sixth inning and Greenville lost 6-to-5.

Lufkin went on to face Japan in the little league world series championship Sunday.

Greenville fell to Mexico 14-8 Sunday morning dealing with similar hard hitting offensive talent from the Mexico team.
