Multiple crews respond to Leland fire


LELAND, NC (WWAY) – Materials at recycling center dump site burst into flames Sunday evening according to Leland Fire officials.

The department along with crews from Wilmington, Winnabow and New Hanover County responded to the fire around 5:30 p.m.

Leland Police had to shut down Blackwell Road, where the site was, so that crews could use multiple fire hydrants.

Up to five engines, two ladders and EMS were on scene.

Leland Fire officials say the cause of the fire is undetermined, but they suspect it was caused by the materials on the site which can include conductive wiring.
