Phillip Goodrum named CAA Co-Player-of-the-Week
RICHMOND, Virginia (UNCWSports.com) – UNCW sophomore midfielder Phillip Goodrum has been named as a co-recipient of the Colonial Athletic Association Men’s Soccer Player-of-the-Week Award.
Goodrum, who also earned a spot on the College Soccer News National Team-of-the-Week, shared the award with Drexel junior midfielder Sebastien Cabral.
“Phillip scored two important goals for us this weekend against William & Mary for a big win on the road,” Coach Aidan Heaney said. “He put himself in the right spots to finish his chances and his overall play was really good for us.
“The team responded very well to being down 1-0 on the road, so I think this award is symbolic of the team effort we showed Saturday night and have been showing consistently all season.”
Goodrum, a native of Charlotte, N.C., recorded the first multi-goal game of his college career as UNCW rallied to defeat preseason CAA favorite William & Mary, 2-1, on Saturday night. He tied the game in the 75th minute off an assist from sophomore Dylan Chain before netting the eventual game-winning goal with 5:10 remaining.
The Seahawks’ leading scorer with four goals and one assist, Goodrum is tied for the CAA lead with nine points.
UNCW, off to a 6-1-0 start with a 2-0-0 mark in CAA play, returns home on Wednesday night to face Elon in a league fixture at 7 p.m.
