Burgaw holds 7th annual Blueberry Drop New Year’s Celebration

BURGAW, NC (WWAY) — The town of Burgaw held its 7th annual Blueberry Drop New Year’s Celebration early Tuesday evening.

Thousands of people came to the town of Pender County to participate in the festivities, which included vendors, a live band, and fireworks after the blueberry dropped.

Tyler Swiontek and Liam Dennis said this was the first time they’d seen the Blueberry Drop and were excited to see it.

“It’s great, it’s something unique that we can go and just hang out downtown,” Swiontek said. “It’s a lot of fun.”

“It makes the place really stand out and I think that’s a really smart marketing decision as well,” Dennis said. “I can’t wait to see it”

Instead of dropping at midnight, the Blueberry dropped at 7 pm to match Greenwich Mean Time in London, which is 5 hours ahead of Eastern Standard time here in the US.
