North Carolina sees record number of travelers for 2024 holiday season

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — With the new year underway, millions of Americans are heading home after traveling for the holidays.

According to Triple-A, a record number of North Carolinians were on the move this holiday season.

More than 3.5 million people traveled 50 or more miles to celebrate the holidays this year.

Nationally, that number was close to 120 million people, a new record.

Air travel also set a new record, as close to 8 million people flew to their holiday destination.
