Seahawks bounce back with big run to beat Huskies

UNCW beats Northeastern 80-72 and improves to 13-5 overall

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) – The Seahawks now have the edge over the Huskies in the series history 18-17 after taking down Northeastern in Trask Coliseum Thursday night.

Four Seahakws reached double figures in the win. When that happens, the team is undefeated. UNCW’s Sean Moore paced the Seahawks in scoring for the second time this season with 15 points to go with six rebounds. Noah Ross contributed 14 points off the bench while Harlan Obioha notched his team-high third double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Donovan Newby provided 10 points to give the Seahawks four in double figures.

A poor start allowed Northeastern to take control in the early minutes. The Huskies sprung an 11-3 lead before a Seahawk timeout.

“We weren’t locked in defensively. We couldn’t get a stop,” said Takayo Siddle. “I wasn’t happy with our defense. I thought they moved too really I didn’t think we were physical enough.”

Northeastern’s AJ Pratt erupted for 20 points in the first 20 minutes but was held to two over the final half. Leading scorer Rashad King added 15 of his 20 points in the second half.

UNCW improves to 3-2 in CAA play before hosting William & Mary, who are 5-0 in CAA play, on a nationally televised game Monday at 1 pm.
