WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Cape Fear Community College is receiving a $25,000 grant from the Duke Energy Foundation to help advance energy industry education opportunities for students in New Hanover and Pender counties.

CFCC is one of 19 community colleges receiving a total of $500,000 from this year’s workforce grants. Additionally, the Duke Energy Foundation has awarded another $100,000 grant to The Forward Fund to provide additional financial support for students attending electrical lineworker training programs at CFCC and elsewhere in North Carolina.

“We are incredibly grateful to the Duke Energy Foundation for this $25,000 grant, which will allow us to expand access to career exploration opportunities for students who need them most,” said Jim Morton, CFCC president. “By partnering with local schools and community organizations, we will bring our virtual reality career exploration program directly to students, focusing on those in underserved areas of Pender and New Hanover counties. This initiative will introduce students to new career pathways, spark their interests, and help bridge the opportunity gap for those facing economic challenges.”
