The latest updates on the Brunswick County wildfire

SHALLOTTE, NC (WWAY) —Fire crews continue battling the Quarry Road Fire in Brunswick County as extreme heat, dry conditions and gusty winds challenge containment efforts.
The fire, which ignited Friday, July 10, has now been mapped at 300 acres and is 10% contained, according to the latest evening update from fire officials. The revised acreage reflects more accurate mapping and reconnaissance flight data.
The N.C. Forest Service and Tri-Beach Fire Department remain in unified command of the incident, with multiple firefighting crews and equipment working throughout the area. N.C. Forest Service aircraft continue to provide aerial support to firefighters on the ground.
Additional assistance is being provided by the Office of the State Fire Marshal, North Carolina Highway Patrol, several local fire departments and Brunswick County agencies.
Fire officials said extreme heat, dry vegetation and gusty winds contributed to active and unpredictable fire behavior throughout the day. While scattered thunderstorms are expected Saturday evening, followed by a cold front bringing more widespread showers and thunderstorms Sunday, changing weather conditions could complicate firefighting efforts.
Crews will continue establishing and reinforcing containment lines while providing ongoing structure protection for nearby homes.
Officials note that 10% containment means portions of the fire line have been secured and are not expected to allow the fire to spread without additional firefighting action.
Two nonresidential commercial structures have been destroyed. Approximately 30 homes remain threatened by the fire.
All previously issued evacuation orders have been lifted, and residents have been allowed to return home. The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office says all roads are open.
Fire engines, heavy equipment and emergency personnel remain active in the area. Motorists are asked to slow down, stay alert and avoid the area, if possible, to allow crews to work safely.
The N.C. Forest Service is investigating the cause of the fire.
