Southport Board of Aldermen held meeting on future plans for Brunswick County Courthouse

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — Aldermen for the City of Southport had a second meeting late last week to talk about future plans for the old Brunswick County Courthouse and City Hall.
The meeting on Thursday, April 10th, was the second one on the topic. At that time, the Board of Aldermen decided the Aldermen chambers will be located on the second floor of the historic building, and the police department will occupy the first floor.
The decision was passed in a 5-to-2 vote. Frank Lai, Marc Spencer, Rebecca Kelly, and Lowe Davis voted in favor. Robert Carroll and Karen Mosteller voted against.
Right now, the Southport Police Department is over by the Walmart in a former bank building on Howe Street.
The city has a lease for five years, which they hope renovations to the Brunswick County Courthouse and City Hall will be completed by that time.
The city has not entered into a contract with any company at this time to do the renovations. They have talked to Moseley architects, who have done a block design.
