Thunderstorms cause damage across Cape Fear

CAPE FEAR, NC (WWAY) — Severe thunderstorms moved through the Cape Fear region Sunday, bringing strong winds and heavy rain.

In Murrayville, a tree fell on a car near the intersection of White Road and Alamosa Drive. The tree also damaged a nearby fence.

There have also been reports of downed trees in downtown Wilmington, as well as in Pender and Columbus counties.

In Wilmington, WWAY’s Matt Bennett captured video of strong winds hitting Anne Bonny’s Bar and Grill along the Riverwalk. Chairs and tables were blown over, and customers took shelter in a storage room across the street.

At least one person was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Their condition has not been released.

Additionally, one of the traffic lights leading onto the Isabel Holmes Bridge was reported to be out and was being worked on Sunday afternoon.
