‘Life’s short’: NC man leaves full-time job to make banjos


MIDLAND, NC (WBTV) — Some people might never gather the nerve to do what Ryan Navey did.

In February, he left his furniture-making job of 20 years to make banjos in a small shop on the side of his Midland home.

“You have to be confident in yourself in what you’re offering to the world if you’re going to sell it,” Navey said, “Because if you don’t believe in it, nobody else will.”

Navey started the Carolina Banjo Company. He spends up to a month handcrafting each instrument.
