Crime sting leads to 34 charges in Bladen County
BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — 20 people were charged for a number of violations in Bladen County during the Labor Day holiday weekend.
In a written statement, the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office said its Narcotics Unit had recently received tips about a possible violent act that was supposed to occur in the Sandhill Community at a place referred to by locals as The Honey Hole.
The sheriff’s office said at least three people have been shot in separate incidents at this location which is owned by Michael Spivey of Bladenboro. Furthermore, alcohol and drugs were also found during each of these prior incidents.
On Friday, August 31, the sheriff’s office partnered with the North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol to crackdown on illegal activity in the community.
After receiving permission to search The Honey Hole, the sheriff’s office and ALE officers discovered it was set up as a club although no customers were present at the time of their search. Spivey, however, was given a verbal warning for possessing alcohol for sale.
Meanwhile, the North Carolina Highway Patrol and sheriff’s deputies set up checkpoints near the establishment and issued 34 criminal and/or traffic offenses including, equipment violations (2), expired registration (3), no insurance (3), provisional licensee (1), DWI (2), open container (4), DWLR (5), NOL (1), revoked registration (3), child restraint (1), improper passing (1), failure to change license address (1), failure to stop for a stop sign (1), underage possession of alcohol (1), selling alcohol to underage (1), carry concealed weapon (2) and marijuana possession (1).
The sheriff’s office says the NCALE also plans to issue an ABC violation to the Time Saver in Clarkton for failure to demand proof of identification and selling alcohol to a person under the age of 21.
