Community opens supply distribution site at elementary school
BELVILLE, NC (WWAY) — Teachers and families got together in Belville to help members of their own community get back on their feet after Hurricane Florence. Belville Elementary School is just another one of the distribution sites in the area.
School administrators started collecting items from the community last week. They opened their doors Friday and Saturday to residents in need of anything from clothes, to food, water, baby products and hygiene products.
Assistant Principal Allison Dixon says they are working with other groups to provide anything they can, including household appliances.
“We’ve actually reached out to Port City Church here, and they’re helping us get some appliances still. So it’s almost like, everyday we learn of a new need. It’s obvious that this community has a lot of needs right now. We all do in this area. But it’s just changing everyday,” said Dixon.
Dixon says they desperately need more cleaning products at this site. She says you can contact them through the Belville Elementary Facebook page. The site will be open from 12pm to 4pm on Monday.
