Columbus County Sheriff’s Office to lead funeral escort honoring fallen deputy

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office is inviting the community to honor the life and service of Darlington County Sheriff’s Deputy Frank Devin Mason, a Whiteville native who died in the line of duty.

A public visitation and funeral service will be held Tuesday at West Columbus High School. Visitation is scheduled from 12 p.m. to 1:50 p.m., followed by the funeral at 2 p.m. After the service, a law enforcement escort will accompany Deputy Mason to his final resting place at Williamson Crossroads Baptist Church Cemetery on Princess Ann Road in Cerro Gordo.

The sheriff’s office is encouraging residents to line the streets along the procession route to pay their respects.

Several roads will be temporarily closed during the procession, including:

  • NC-242 (Haynes Lennon Highway)
  • Princess Ann Road
  • Griffin Road at Princess Ann Road

Drivers are advised to expect delays and plan accordingly Tuesday afternoon.
