NHRMC returns to normalcy after many storm-related injuries

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover Regional Medical Center says area emergency rooms are returning to normalcy after an increased number of storm-related injuries.

Spokesman Julian March says there was a rise directly after Hurricane Florence but have slowly declined since.

The top storm- related reasons for emergency visits included:

  • Bites and stings from bugs, animals, wasps and/or hornets
  • Lacerations and puncture wounds
  • Heat-related issues
  • Musculoskeletal injury
  • Home oxygen issues
  • Dialysis
  • Stress and anxiety related issues

Between September 12th and October 7th, musculoskeletal injuries were mostly reported with 90 patients visiting with these pains.

Respiratory related emergencies are starting to increase.
