FEMA trailers coming to eastern North Carolina
KINSTON, NC (WCTI) — Travel trailers and manufactured housing units are being provided to eligible Hurricane Florence survivors in 10 North Carolina counties: Brunswick, Carteret, Columbus, Craven, Duplin, Jones, Onslow, Pender, New Hanover and Robeson.
FEMA provided an inside look Thursday at the two trailers eligible for storm survivors. One resembles an RV and comes with one bedroom and possibly bunk beds. The other is a mobile housing unit that is meant for a more long-term stay.
FEMA officials said family size and how long it takes for a family to rebuild their home will determine which model you get.
“The goal is to put these on your property near your home so you can stay in your community,” said North Carolina Emergency Management Spokesman Keith Acree. “You can still continue to go to work. Your kids can go to school. You can continue to live in your community while repairs to your home continue.”
FEMA agents said if a person still needs to register for disaster recovery, they have time.
Disaster survivors who are interested and need help should call the disaster assistance helpline at (800) 621-3362 or (800) 462-7585 anytime from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m seven days a week until further notice. Multilingual operators are available. If you have questions on how to apply for aid, visit www.fema.gov.
