Man tries to eat fentanyl, destroy cocaine after running from Wilmington Police, authorities say
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Three men were arrested Sunday night after police officers witnessed them handling narcotics in a parking lot in the 4300 block of Market Street, according to a news release from the Wilmington Police Department.
When officers approached the group, police said Jonathan Juneau, 23, tried to run and eat fentanyl from a bag. Officers were able to stop him and the two other suspects, taking all three into custody.
According to police, while being held at WPD headquarters, Juneau attempted to destroy and scatter two bags of cocaine on the floor. A separate bag of fentanyl was also found in his wallet.
Juneau faces multiple charges, including Possession With Intent to Manufacture, Sell or Deliver (PWIMSD) Cocaine, Felony Possession of Cocaine, Possession of a Controlled Substance in Jail, PWIMSD Schedule II Controlled Substance, Felony Obstruction of Justice, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He is being held without bond at the New Hanover County Detention Center.
Police also arrested Mason Huie, 20, who is charged with Felony Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance, Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Littering, and Parole Violation. He received a $5,000 secured bond for the drug charges and is being held without bond for the parole violation.
The third suspect, Josiah Shepard, 22, is charged with Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia, Possession of Less Than a Half Ounce of Marijuana, and Resist/Delay/Obstructing Public Officers. His bond was set at $1,200 secured.
