Vinyl revival celebrated nationwide on National Vinyl Record Day
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Tuesday is National Vinyl Record Day and people are celebrating by listening to their favorite vinyl records and visiting record stores.
National Vinyl Record Day celebrates the history and culture of vinyl records by commemorating the day Thomas Edison created the phonograph in 1877.
Tim Freeman, owner of Yellow Dog Discs says vinyl records have never completely gone away but after a downfall they’ve made a comeback.
“We’re a culture that likes to feel and visualize things and it’s hard to do that with a stream. So, people like to get the posters and get the art work. The different colors, things like that,’ Freeman said.
Freeman adds that every year his store sees an up-tick in vinyl record sales and part of that is due to Record Store Day which was celebrated in early April.
