SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — A Southport home was damaged Thursday evening after being struck by lightning, according to the Southport Fire Department.

Fire officials said crews responded around 7 p.m. to the 3000 block of Robert Ruark Drive for a reported house fire. When firefighters arrived, they found damage to the two-story home from a lightning strike.

While no fire was found, officials said there was light smoke inside the residence and damage to both the interior and exterior of the home.

No injuries were reported.

According to SFD, the department was assisted by Oak Island Station 1, Sunny Point Station 35, Boiling Spring Lakes Station 4, St. James Fire Station 37, Brunswick County EMS, the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office and Southport Police Department.
