Leland police searching for driver who ran from traffic stop

LELAND, NC (WWAY)– Leland Police are searching for a driver who ran from their car during a traffic stop.

According to Brunswick County 911, it happened just before 11:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Local law enforcement began searching for a person they say jumped out of their car during a traffic stop and ran.

It happened off Highway 17 and Brunswick Forest Parkway in Leland.  Multiple vehicles from Brunswick County Sheriff’s office and Leland Police responded to the scene, but Leland PD will be taking over the search.

We’re told by witnesses that officers are using flashlights and searching the nearby wooded area.
