Man charged after allegedly breaking into New Hanover County woman’s home

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Deputies with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man who allegedly broke into a woman’s home this weekend.
It happened at a home on Southfield Court in the Northchase Subdivision on Saturday at 6:13 p.m.
A spokesman for the sheriff’s office said the suspect, Demere Jaikeh Ballard, 22, allegedly broke into a home and did not know the homeowner. A woman who was inside at the time ran out and immediately called 911.
When deputies arrived, they established a perimeter around the home. The spokesman said deputies weren’t sure if Ballard was impaired and he did not comply with their request to come out.
When deputies entered the home, they found Ballard inside. During his arrest, he allegedly kicked an officer.
Ballard was charged with Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer/Police Officer other serious injury, breaking and entering terrorize/injure, and resist delay obstruct public officers.
His bond amount was set at $40,000. He is scheduled to appear in New Hanover County court on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
