Wilmington man speaks about attending Charlie Kirk’s memorial service in Arizona
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A memorial service for assassinated political activist Charlie Kirk was held in Arizona last Sunday, and a Wilmington man made the trip out there to attend the service in person.
WWAY spoke with Wayne Johnston last Friday after he had made banners and signs showing his support for Kirk.
Johnston said he was inspired to attend Kirk’s memorial service after attending a vigil for Kirk at UNCW the previous Monday.
He flew out to Arizona early Sunday morning and made his way over to State Farm Stadium.
He said he was one of the last 10 people allowed into the overflow arena located nearby and that being at the service was an unbelievable experience.
“One of the most beautiful experiences I’ve ever witnessed,” Johnston said. “It was life-changing, it was full of love, full of God, full of sadness, full of joy and it was 5 hours of, of beauty.”
Johnston said he was also shocked and cried when Charlie’s widow, Erika, said she forgave the man who killed him.
