WWAY meteorologists provide update on tropics

CAPE FEAR, NC (WWAY) — As the tropics are starting to heat up, WWAY’s meteorologists provide an update on what you can expect for early next week.

Hurricane Humberto is expected to become a major hurricane this week and is expected to not make landfall.

A tropical wave currently near the southeast Bahamas will likely develop into a depression late Friday or this weekend and potentially could become the next named system Imelda as it moves north and northwest. The threat for potential Imelda to impact the southeast states early next week has increased. Hazardous surf… rip currents and marine conditions are expected early next week. It is still too early to determine if the Cape Fear will get impacts or what they might be… but there is at least a possibility of heavy rains and gusty winds early next week unless to storm curves northeast away from the Carolinas. Weather Prediction Center is forecasting that the Cape Fear could see 5 to 7 inches over the next 7 days. Now is the time to review your hurricane plan and monitor the latest updates on storm activity. Stay tuned to WWAY and StormTrack 3 for the latest on both systems.
