Tony award-winning play Red coming to Thalian Hall
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Thalian Hall is bringing John Logan’s Tony Award-winning play RED to Thalian Hall this week as part of a production and technical residency.
The play, directed by Shane Fernando and co-produced with KMP Artists, will run Oct. 2–5 before beginning a national tour.
Local actor Justin Smith, known for roles in Saturday Night, Tammy, and NBC’s Revolution, stars as painter Mark Rothko as he works on one of his final series of paintings. Glauco Araujo, a Brazilian actor based in New York City who has appeared in Netflix’s Manifest and Russian Doll, plays Rothko’s assistant Ken.
According to a news release, the residency engages local crew and creative professionals as part of Thalian Hall’s broader transformation project, which includes workforce development initiatives for artists and technicians.
Fernando said the collaboration not only develops a show for the national stage but also highlights Wilmington’s role as a hub for live performance.
RED runs through Sunday at the Stein Theatre inside Thalian Hall.
