Pre-construction survey underway for Oak Island beach nourishment project
OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — A pre-construction survey has begun in one Brunswick County beach town.
The pre-construction beach profile survey is for Oak Island’s upcoming beach nourishment project.
Gahagan and Bryant Associate or GBA, a Wilmington based company, is conducting the survey so you may see trucks, boats, or equipment with their logo on it for the next couple of weeks in the beach area.
Project engineer Nathan Schluns says the goal is to collect data and make sure the correct amount of sand is placed.
“The whole point of the survey is to analyze the beach prior to construction to make sure there’s enough sand being placed or if we need to increase or decrease according to the surveys that we conduct over the next two weeks,” Schluns said.
Those fishing or swimming near the GBA boat are asked to temporarily reel in their lines and move out of the way until the boat passes.
The nourishment project is expected to start in the next couple of months.
