Police investigating after body found in pond near Pine Valley Library

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) —  Wilmington Police are investigating after a body was found late Wednesday morning near the Pine Valley Branch of the New Hanover County Public Library.

Officers responded around 10:48 a.m. to a retention pond near the library, where the body of a white adult male was discovered, according to police.

Police say kids were outside of the library and their parents saw clothes on the bank. When they went to investigate, they spotted a body floating on the surface of the water.

The cause of death has not yet been determined. Officials say the remains will be sent for an autopsy.

The Pine Valley Branch is temporarily closed as police continue to investigate the scene.
