COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina announced in a press release that they will continue to operate their Pop-Up Market throughout the winter months.

This comes alongside ongoing federal government shutdowns and the reduction of SNAP benefits causing increased financial strain.

The Pop-up Markets offer fresh, nutritious food at no cost to community members.

No identification is required and there is no need to pre-register, the events are open to the public.

Participants can pick up food for neighbors, family, or friends.

Fresh fruits or vegetables are primarily available, with limited dry and beverage items. All food is served on a first-come-first serve basis while supplies last.

“The Food Bank and its partner agencies continue to play an essential role in supporting residents who are facing food insecurity,” said Dr. Howard Marshall Wallace II, County Extension Director for NC Cooperative Extension, Columbus County Center. “These markets provide accessible, dignified support for anyone who may need it during this difficult time.”

In Columbus County, two Pop-Up Markets are scheduled:

  • Monday, November 3rd from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Cerro Gordo Baptist Church
    • 257 Church Street, Cerro Gordo
