Man wanted for felonies arrested following traffic stop

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — On Sunday, the Wilmington Police Department observed a truck being driven by a man who had multiple outstanding felony warrants.
The truck was spotted near South 13th Street and Dawson Street.
When police attempted to conduct a traffic stop, 36-year-old Samuel Whitley of Wilmington failed to comply and continued driving. The officer followed with emergency lights and sirens activated.
Whitley ultimately came to a stop a short time later at the intersection of 16th Street and Greenfield Street, where officers safely took him into custody without further incident.
Whitely is charged with felony possession of cocaine, possession of schedule III-controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless driving, failure to heed light/siren, speeding to elude arrest, failure to appear on felony and parole violation.
He is currently being held at the New Hanover Sheriff’s Office Detention Center without bond.
