Judge sentences New Hanover County trafficker to 7 years in prison

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A New Hanover County judge sentenced a man to seven years in prison on drug charges.
On Monday, November 3, 2025, Kymeek Quincy Rodney, 23, pled guilty to two counts Trafficking Opium or Heroin after fentanyl-laced pills were found in his possession.
Rodney’s contact with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office began with a traffic stop on February 13, 2024. The vehicle Rodney was driving was transporting approximately 66 fentanyl-laced blue, circular pills marked “M” on one side and “30” on the other. A firearm was also found.
A search warrant was executed at Rodney’s residence later that same day, where investigators found over an ounce of cocaine. Rodney and Zymene Ballard were both charged.
Despite having no prior criminal record, investigators were able to determine that Rodney had supplied trafficking levels of narcotics to the Wilmington area from out of State previously.
“Even a portion of one of these fentanyl-laced pills can be deadly. Fentanyl itself is extremely addictive, and those who sell, deliver, or help others profit from fentanyl will be prosecuted without hesitation,” remarked District Attorney Jason W. Smith.
Ballard’s cases were resolved in July of this year. He is currently serving a prison sentence of nine years.
