WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) — Hoggard boys soccer won their round three matchup at home over Apex Friendship 1-0 on Monday.

The Vikings struggled to generate quality offensive chances, but Jace Tucker managed to break away and score with around 18 minutes remaining before the team played heavy defense to preserve their lead.

“The game plan changes, we got to work on our counter attack,” Tucker said. “We got to look for the openings, the runs in behind. We did that well in the 2nd half. We had a couple of chances that should have put away. We’re just going to prepare like always coming into these games trying to win. We’re just going to work on our passing, work on how we can counter attack and generate goal opportunities.”

Hoggard will face Laney in the Class 8A East Regional championship on Thursday. The winner of their game will play for a state championship next week in Greensboro. The Bucs defeated Broughton 4-2 on Monday.
