Topsail rolls past Fuquay-Varina 34-7 to advance to second round of state playoffs
FUQUAY-VARINA, NC (WWAY) — The Topsail Pirates are moving on to the second round of the North Carolina high school football state playoffs after defeating the Fuquay-Varina Bengals 34-7 on Friday night.
Playing on the road, Topsail delivered a strong performance on both sides of the ball to keep its postseason hopes alive. The Pirates’ defense made its presence felt early, with Ryan Strickland delivering a big tackle to help set the tone.
On offense, quarterback Tyler Vickers led the charge, handing the ball off to Kyle Albert, who powered his way through the Bengals’ defense for a touchdown.
Vickers also found success through the air, connecting with Carter Reitan on several impressive passes throughout the night. On one play, Vickers scrambled to avoid pressure before finding Reitan downfield for a big completion. The duo continued to connect as the Pirates moved the ball against Fuquay-Varina.
Albert also played a key role in Topsail’s offensive success, finding his way into the end zone again for another Pirates touchdown.
The Pirates ultimately cruised to a 34-7 victory, securing a first-round playoff win and advancing to the second round of the state playoffs.
