Weekend road closure ahead of annual Battleship Half Marathon

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Expect traffic delays and road closures Saturday and Sunday in Wilmington.

The 27th annual Battleship Half Marathon, 10K and 5K will take place on Sunday from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. with about 2,500 participants.

Beginning Saturday at noon, Water Street between Market Street and Princess Street will be closed.

On Sunday starting at 3 a.m. the following streets will be closed:

  • Princess Street between Front Street and Water Street
  • Water Street between Princess Street and Chestnut Street
  • Chestnut Street between Front Street and Water Street
  • Market Street between Front Street and Water Street
  • Front Street between Brunswick Street and Red Cross Street
  • Front Street between Ann Streat and Orange Street
  • Hanover Street between Nutt Street and Front Street
  • Red Cross Street between Water Street and 2nd Street
  • Northbound Front Street between Burnett Blvd/Carolina Beach Road and Orange Street
  • Southbound 2nd Street between Grace Street and Red Cross Street
  • Southbound exit ramp to Front Street from Cape Fear Memorial Bridge/HWY 74/76
  • Front Street on ramp to Cape Fear Memorial Bridge/westbound HWY 74/76
  • Greenfield Street between Front Street and 2nd Street

The half marathon course begins on Princess Street near the Alton Lennon Federal Building and heads south toward and across the Cape Faer Memorial Bridge, north on US 421 toward and across the Isabel Holmes Bridge, looping back through downtown, and toward and around Greenfield Lake, ending back at Princess Street.

The 10K follows the same route as the half marathon but turns around on Greenfield Street and heads to the finish line on Princess Street. The 5K stays in downtown Wilmington.
