Brunswick County mother of five dies after breast cancer battle

NAVASSA, NC (WWAY) — A sad update to a story WWAY shared last week about a Brunswick County mother battling cancer.

Last Thursday, dozens of Navassa residents, fire department trucks, and Santa took part in a parade for Heather McCain and her family.

She watched all the excitement from her front porch as the community showered the family with hugs and gifts.

McCain was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2018, and it had recently progressed to stage 4.

With her husband, Bronson, by her side, McCain said it meant so much to witness the outpouring of support for her family.

“I’m ecstatic, this is amazing to see all the love. It’s really cool,” McCain said.
