Columbus County Sheriff’s Animal Protective Services not taking animals for now

WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) – The Columbus County Sheriff’s Animal Protective Services Unit says the county animal shelter is closed for all animal intake.
Officials say the shelter cannot take in any animals due to “unforeseen circumstances.” They say animals will not be accepted under any circumstances; no exceptions. That includes strays, owner surrenders and drop-offs.
“Our goal is always to provide proper care, and at this moment, we simply do not have the capacity to safely take in more animals,” the unit wrote on its Facebook page.
They will post an update as soon as intake reopens.
