A man faces at least 28 years in prison for sexual abuse of a minor

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A South Carolina man faces 28 to 39 years in prison after he was convicted by a Columbus County jury for sexual abuse of a minor.

On Friday, the jury convicted 54-year-old Cleon Cortez after less than one hour of deliberations of statutory sexual offense with a child by an adult and taking indecent liberties with a child.

The judge sentenced Cortez to two consecutive sentences in the custody of the Department of Adult Corrections.

The District Attorney’s office says that on January 1st, 2023, Coretz sexually abused a minor at a home in Tabor City.
