Cameron Art Museum educator named NC Museum Art Educator of the Year

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Cameron Art Museum announced that September Krueger, its Curator of Education and Public Programs, has been named the North Carolina Art Education Association’s Museum Division Art Educator of the Year for 2024–2025.
The statewide award recognizes leadership, service, and advocacy in museum-based arts education. According to the nomination submitted to NCAEA, Krueger was selected for her long-standing commitment to creating accessible, community-focused arts learning experiences for people of all ages, work the museum says aligns with its mission to connect people through creativity, culture, and education.
Her nomination highlighted a wide range of programs, workshops, and educational initiatives that engage learners across the region. That includes outreach partnerships, such as a recent project in which a local artist collaborated with kindergarten through sixth-grade students at a nearby Title I elementary school. Under Krueger’s guidance, the effort led to student artwork being displayed at the school, the local arts council, and at a regional arts festival.
“All students deserve opportunities to see their creativity valued, and September makes that possible,” said Allison Ellis of NCAEA, who nominated Krueger. Ellis said Krueger’s work has inspired students who had never visited a museum before and helped them share their artistic voices with confidence.
Krueger has also contributed to statewide professional development, presenting alongside Cameron Art Museum colleagues at the NCAEA Regional Professional Development Conference to share strategies for building community engagement through the arts.
“September’s impact is deeply felt across our region,” said Heather Wilson, CEO of Cameron Art Museum. “Her commitment to meaningful, inclusive arts education has transformed countless lives and reflects the very best of what museum education can be.”
