WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Warming Shelter ILM will open for the first time this winter on Sunday, Dec. 14, providing warmth and shelter to people experiencing homelessness during cold temperatures.

The shelter will remain open through Tuesday morning, Dec. 16. The program offers a safe, warm place to sleep for anyone in need, with no questions asked.

This year, Warming Shelter ILM is operating under a new multi-site model, hosting guests at two locations: Grace United Methodist Church at 401 Grace St. and Purpose Church at 920 N. 6th St.

Organizers say operating two locations will require additional volunteer support. Volunteers are needed to fill a variety of roles and can sign up through the organization’s Facebook page or online here.

The shelter is also accepting donations, though clothing contributions are limited this year to adult winter coats only. Updates on needed supplies are regularly posted on the shelter’s website and Facebook page.

Financial support is also critical for the volunteer-driven initiative. Donations can be made online.
