Loose potbellied pig surprises Leland neighborhood and is reunited with owner
LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Some residents in the Leland community of Southview Park recently saw an unusual site — a large potbellied pig wandering in a cul-de-sac in their neighborhood.
When Holly Montross found out, she was shocked.
“I was just casually sitting on my couch and my husband kind of moseys in very slow and just comes around the corner and looks at me and goes ‘there’s a pig in the cul-de-sac’ so I had to get up and I ran outside and then I saw him just meandering around the neighborhood,” said Montross.
Montross immediately posted in a Facebook group — asking if anyone was missing their pet.
“I was like yeah let me do that first because you never know what’s going to happen. You know, if he’s going to run out into the road, I didn’t want him to get hurt so we just tried to make sure, see if we could find somebody to claim him before we called,” said Montross.
A short time later, another neighbor — Barbara Baumgarten — read Montross’ post.
“After dinner I was looking at my Facebook and I just happened to see that there was a pig on the loose, and I looked down and it was my neighbor, and it was in my cul-de-sac. So, I went outside to take a look and sure enough there’s the pig,” said Baumgarten.
Montross called 911, and Brunswick County Animal Protective Services arrived shortly thereafter to wrangle the pig.
As a result of the Facebook post, the pig’s owner saw it and was reunited with her missing pet.
