WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Several events across the Cape Fear region have been canceled or postponed this weekend as Hurricane Isaias threatens to bring heavy rain and strong winds to southeastern North Carolina.

The Town of Belville announced Friday that it has canceled its Founders Day/America 250 Celebration due to expected rain and wind from the storm’s outer bands.

Town officials said that while Belville is not expected to take a direct hit from Isaias, Brunswick County could experience significant rainfall and strong winds, raising concerns about hazardous travel and localized flooding.

The celebration will not be rescheduled.

Mayor Chuck Bost encouraged residents to prepare for the approaching storm.

“We encourage residents to prepare for the approaching storm by monitoring local news, weather forecasts, and official emergency management updates. Residents should also secure outdoor items, avoid flooded roadways, and take appropriate precautions as conditions develop,” Bost said.

The town plans to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2027. Its next scheduled community events include the Trunk or Treat Monster Mash on Friday, Oct. 23, and Belville’s Christmas Celebration on Saturday, Dec. 5.

In Wilmington, organizers have canceled the annual Fire in the Pines Festival, which was scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 10, at Halyburton Park.

The decision was made due to weather and safety concerns. Organizers have not announced whether the festival will be rescheduled.

The Junior League of Wilmington has also postponed its 18th annual Touch-A-Truck event because of the expected inclement weather.

The event, originally scheduled for this weekend, has been rescheduled for Sunday, Nov. 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

WWAY will continue to update this story as additional cancellations and postponements are announced.
