Warming Shelter ILM opens as the cold approaches

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Warming Shelter ILM has opened its doors at Grace United Methodist Church to anyone without a home during the harsh cold weather.

They are welcoming anybody, no questions asked, for Sunday and Monday night.

On early Sunday, volunteers helped prep food, snacks, and beds for people to stay in, after the shelter decided to open on Saturday

Charlene Zorn, Food Coordinator for the shelter, says gathering to help others in need is important, especially during the extreme winter season.

“It’s a gift that we receive from our friends, because we get to help them. We keep them safe and warm on the coldest night, when nobody should be outside. Our animals or fellow human beings, no one should be in this weather,” said Zorn.

The Shelter will re-open at 5 P.M. on Monday evening, with checkout being at 9 A.M on Tuesday.
