NC State Highway Patrol member involved in shooting in Guilford County

GREENSBORO, NC (WWAY) — Tuesday morning a member of the NC State Highway Patrol attempted to stop a vehicle, the driver failed to stop, pulled a gun and was shot by the trooper.
The NC State Highway Patrol says around 9:49 a.m. a white vehicle was speeding 61 mph in a 35-mph zone on Vandalia Road near Randleman Road in Greensboro. The vehicle failed to stop when the lights and sirens were activated which led to a chase.
The chase went on for several minutes onto Pleasant Garden Road and ended on Joseph M. Hunt Jr. Expressway near Pleasant Garden Road. Highway Patrol says the driver then pulled out a handgun and the trooper shot the driver.
Life-saving measures were performed on scene until EMS arrived and transported the driver, 36-year-old Kasandra Forbes of Greensboro, to a local hospital.
The trooper, 6-year veteran Trooper Zachary Bullard, was not injured during the incident. Bullard was placed on administrative duty as the situation is investigated per protocol.
Charges against Forbes have yet to be announced by NC Highway Patrol says they’re forthcoming.
