Wilmington-made horror film “The Confession” heads to streaming platforms
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A psychological horror film made in Wilmington is set to reach a global audience this week.
The Confession, a locally produced movie featuring a Port City cast and crew, begins streaming Friday on major digital platforms. The film stars several Wilmington-based actors, including Allie McCulloch, who spoke with WWAY ahead of the release.
McCulloch described the film as “scary, but fun,” adding that it is intense without being overly graphic.
The movie is a modern twist on the Pied Piper legend, set in rural Texas. The story follows a struggling musician who returns to her childhood home with her young son after her father’s death and uncovers a disturbing recording that sets off a series of unsettling events.
McCulloch said the project stood out because of its local roots. “I love the community that came together for this cast and crew,” she said. “Everybody’s local. It was really cool.”
She said she auditioned for the role and was excited that director Will Canon, who is not from the area, chose to use Wilmington talent and resources.
“I think it’s amazing that he utilized what we have in this community,” McCulloch said.
The film screened locally during Cucalorus Film Festival in the fall and is now set for a wider release. McCulloch encouraged viewers to expect suspenseful moments. “There are some little jump scares,” she said.
The Confession will be available Friday to rent or buy on Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango at Home, Google and YouTube, and on-demand platforms including Comcast/Xfinity, Spectrum, DirecTV, Dish, Verizon Fios and others. The film is currently available for pre-order on Apple TV and Fandango at Home.
