Columbus County Commissioners approve additional funding for EMS vehicles

WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — Columbus County Commissioners approved additional funding for the county’s emergency services during their board meeting on Tuesday.

Commissioners approved a budget amendment of more than $420,000, which will allow the continued use of two quick response vehicles, or QRV.

Those vehicles are often used to get to scenes before normal ems personnel can get there.

For example, a crew using a QRV was able to help deliver a baby last week before EMS got there.

More than a dozen ems personnel attended the meeting to support getting the funding.

Commissioner Ricky Bullard said the county would like to try to add more QRVs.

“We would love to add more, but we will do it as the funding becomes available. But they do work wherever the need requires them to go,” Bullard said.

The funding will last through the remainder of the current budget cycle, which ends in June.
