Driver killed in rear-end collision along US-74 near Chadbourn

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The North Carolina Highway Patrol has confirmed one driver was killed in a car crash early Sunday morning along US 74-76, west of Whiteville.

According to the Highway Patrol, just before 2 am, a car was rear-ended between the Union Valley exit and the Peacock Road overpass.

The driver of the car that was rear-ended was killed, while the other driver was injured and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

While the Highway Patrol says it was raining at the time, the weather was not a factor in the crash.

The identities of both drivers have not been released at this time.
