Hoggard picks up 63-48 win at West Brunswick

SHALLOTTE, N.C. (WWAY) — In a tough road environment, Hoggard boys basketball managed to defeat West Brunswick 63-48 on Wednesday.
The Vikings were led by Hunter McGrath’s 18 points while all of Will Seward’s 17 came in the 2nd half. Jerrison Dixon of the Trojans had 13.
Hoggard’s win pushes them even with New Hanover for the Carolina Coast lead. It came in a tense matchup that was closer at times than the final score would suggest. It saw one spectator walk onto the court during the game, prompting security to approach them. Another fan tracked down and yelled at the officials in a hallway as they were going to their locker room immediately after the game.
“Every year, you know how it is, they always play hard,” Seward said. “It’s always going to be a scrappy game. I think it comes down to effort. In the first half, we weren’t always the first to the ball. But in the second half, I thought we did a lot better job. Nothing changes. We take everything one day at a time. We try to go 1-0 every night.”
Hoggard visits Laney on Friday, the only conference opponent the Vikings have lost to so far.
