I-85 NB reopens in NC after leaving more than 100 vehicles stranded

KANNAPOLIS, NC (WWAY) –Interstate 85 was closed Saturday in both directions in Kannapolis due to hazardous weather conditions.
Kannapolis Fire and Police said dozens of vehicles are stranded on the interstate, including more than two dozen tractor-trailers.
The City of Kannapolis, the National Guard and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol are responding to assist motorists who are stuck.
WSOC reports that the interstate reopened around 9 p.m.
Authorities are urging drivers to stay off the roads, saying streets are impassable and conditions are extremely dangerous.
Officials warned that many drivers believe they can navigate the roads in the current weather, but say that is not the case. Drivers are asked to shelter in place and avoid all unnecessary travel until conditions improve.
