Deputy K-9 Honey locates missing 90-year-old woman

MONKEY JUNCTION, NC (WWAY) — Just after completing training, a K-9 helped locate a missing woman.

On Friday, the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit was alerted that a 90-year-old woman was missing and last seen at the Walmart in Monkey Junction.

Master Deputy Pederson and Deputy K-9 Honey responded to the scene and established a track.

Following the scent trail for nearly a mile, K-9 Honey located the woman lying on the ground between two vehicles.

EMS provided medical assistance and the woman was safely returned home.

The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office said their K-9 Unit and multiple surrounding agencies completed joint K-9 training the week of.

The sheriff’s office said, “This incident highlights the critical value of ongoing K-9 training and interagency cooperation, as well as the dedication of our deputies to serving and protecting the community.”
