CAROLINA SHORES, NC (WWAY) — On Monday, the Carolina Shores Town Commissioners held a public hearing on the golf course rezoning.

At the hearing, the rezoning of the 149-acre Carolina Shores Golf Course from Conservation Recreation District to Planned Residential District was voted down 3 to 1 with Jeff Alt the only one in favor of rezoning.

A spokesperson from the meeting said the commissioners asked at the meeting for a show of hands on who supports the rezoning and no attendee raised their hand.

On January 21, the Planning Board voted 3-0 to recommend denial of the rezoning.

“The Planning Board recommended denial based on specific policies in our Town’s adopted CAMA Comprehensive Plan addressing transportation safety, stormwater management, and flood hazard avoidance. These aren’t subjective preferences—these are mandatory standards our Town committed to following. If the rezoning is approved on Feb. 9, 2026, we’re asking the Commissioners to explain how this rezoning satisfies those policies, or why they’ve chosen to override them,” Lon Forehand, Co-Chair, Carolina Shores Residents Liaison Committee said.
