Local actor speaks about role in Oscar-nominated film at Thalian Hall viewing

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — An Oscar-nominated movie was shown at Thalian Hall on Monday night, and the North Carolina actor who appeared in several scenes came out to the event.

Paul Schneider, who was born in Asheville and now lives in Wilmington, had several scenes in Train Dreams, a Netflix period piece that received four nominations at this year’s Oscars.

Schneider is most famous for appearing in the first two seasons of the comedy show Parks and Recreation.

He spoke briefly to the crowd who gathered for the viewing at Thalian Hall, saying he was happy to be in it.

“I’m very happy to contribute to this film, it’s a very small contribution but it was a phone call that came out of the blue two summers ago,” Schneider said.

After the movie, Schneider answered questions during a Q&A.

The movie, which has nominations for Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, and Best Original Song, will be shown again at Thalian Hall through Wednesday.
